The boy’s dormitory in Kasaana Junior school in Nyendo Mukunge division Masaka city caught fire in the
wee hours of Monday 30 October, 2023 at 4 :00am. The dormitory accommodated 15 pupils of Top class
and Primary one. Two pupils Aloysius Ahebwa and Malik Katende died on spot and four others are
admitted at Masaka Referral Hospital in critical condition.
The Greater Masaka police acting spokesperson Jamada Wanders said the fire was as a result of a short
circuit coming from a phone that was being charged by the school matron Christine Adong. He added on
saying that though the police managed to rush at the school, the two students couldn’t be saved.
Parents whose children are in the boarding section at Kasaana Junior School rushed at the scene
immediately they got the news to check on their children’s safety however they were not let inside until
it was safe.
This comes in a period of one month after Masaka Senior Secondary school girls’ dormitory was
destroyed by fire leaving large sums of property destroyed
