“ We should at least have one school per region minimum because the cost of coming to Wakiso for a person from Mitoma like me, would be difficult .” RT. Hon Thomas Tayebwa said
Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa called upon the government of the republic of Uganda to build at least one school for hearing impaired children in the four different regions in Uganda so that children with hearing impairment do not lag behind in education for lack of facilities to cater for their education.
This was during the 50th celebrations and fundraising gala of Uganda National Association of the Deaf ( UNAD) at Mestil Hotel in Kampala
There is no access to standard education in different regions for children who are impaired with hearing due to unavailability of schools to cater for their learning needs.
Some schools like Ntinda school for the deaf that is government aided later on led to the birth of some others that is to say Butambala school for the deaf sponsored by Hajji Bunkeddeko and Ngora school for the deaf by Uganda society for the deaf have been put up to address this issue however they are inaccessible due to far distance especially for those out of kampala and wakiso areas.

He added on saying that the Minister of Education and sports Janet Museveni , MPs representing persons with disabilities in Parliament and the Uganda National Association for the Deaf should work together so as to set up a facility center to skill the deaf and cater for need for PWDs to execute their potentials. Over 200 students with a hearing impairment across the country sat for Primary Leaving Examinations in 2022 but none passed in Division one and a total of 2,257 pupils sat for PLE .
Other schools are built openly but when it comes to people with disabilities or differently impaired persons ,officials sit privately to fund raise for them yet the are also tax payers.
