DON’T PANIC WE HAVE ENOUGH BLOOD.

What is Blood? Blood is a specialized body fluid that helps in body functioning, it has major components of, plasma,red blood cells,white blood cells and platelets. These have different functions to a body that include transporting oxygen and nutrients to body tissues and lungs among others.

Today, the minister of Health appeared before parliament to clarify on the speculation of the country’s health facilities not having enough blood for patients. The minister told parliament that they continously face challenges of blood availability in the country , since collection of different blood groups faces challenges and some units are stored until they expire without being used .

Achenge further explained to the house, that their target is collecting 400,000 Units of blood annually, though the highest collected so far is only 300,000 Units. She affirmed to the house that the ministry still needs capacity and resources to mobilize and meet their target of 400,000 Units of blood annually .

Achenge , backed up her case with concrete statistical evidence of how much blood is in the different blood banks. There’s 2400 Units in Nakasero Blood bank and 535Units in Masaka Blood bank. Achenge told the house as a matter of fact, that there are some areas that might get stressed soon ,but the country shouldn’t worry because the 2400units in Nakasero will be re-distributed to these health centers.

She assured the legislators and the general public, that Nakasero Blood bank is currently collecting more blood to ensure sustainability , and situation is under control.
