IN COMMEMORATION OF WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOR DAY.

“Week Of Action Against Child Labour .”

The legal working age of Ugandans is 18 years ,due to inevitable circumstances such as death of both
parents , children are forced to go out to earn for a living aw well as poverty . What is child labor?


It’s where children under the working age are robbed off their child hood to go work and earn money.The pivotal point of this vice is poverty since many can’t afford education and parents can’t sustain
their lives.

In 2002 International Labour Organization kicked off World Day Against Child Labour ,annually 12 June it’s remembered by countries affiliated with United Nations .This year’s theme is
“Week Of Action Against Child Labour .” With activities to sensitize the public on the effects of ChildLabour foristance depression that’s brought about by poor mental health.

May is a mental health
awareness month and child labour was pinned as one of it’s causes .
47 % of Children in Uganda are victims of child labour in different sectors that’s to say;In the Service sector . This is highly experienced by Children in Uganda where children sell goods on streets instead of being at school plus hawking them denying then the chance have a taste of what
childhood is .


Industry Sector .Children are involved in brick laying , mines which are dangerous places even forworking age humans .
The agricultural sector .Children as well work in coffee , tobacco and sugar cane plantations especially when they are supposed to be in school , even though Universal Primary Education (UPE ) and Universal Secondary Schools (USE ) parents can’t afford materials required of them , like pens , pencils making it
complex .


Also the worst form of Cold Labour indulging children in sexual activities for income . To an extent of being trafficked to nearby countries ; Sudan , Democratic Republic Of Congo and Kenya and the Uganda National Action Plan confirms over 2 million Ugandan Children are in Child Labour, Children in rural areas succumb to the worst forms of child labor without even getting Justice served .


According to reports from UN over 160 are involved in Child Labour world wide zeroed down to among
10 children at least one is working underage.

During a press release at the Media Center the Minister of Gender Betty Amongi on 8 July 2023 ,discourages child Labour for it exposed children to dangerous environments risking their lives and It’s
promotion of school dropouts . This being the 21st commemoration of world Day against Child Labour , It’s Adults’ responsibility to put
this to an end .
