IS FUFA DRUM THE TRUE DEFINITION OF PROVINCE FOOTBALL?

In January 2018, FUFA officially launched and introduced a new Football tournament aimed at taking the beautiful game to the masses in Uganda.

The FUFA Inter Provinces Competition was then named ‘The Drum’ The Competition is played between 16 provinces of Uganda and it is codenamed “The FUFA Drum” which is run and managed by official FUFA regulations.

A large number of spectators turn up to watch the drum

The objectivity of the DRUM is to search for new and amazing football talents in Uganda and the Uganda football leagues alone weren’t the best way for trapping more talents.

The tournament has only 16 provinces and those provinces are made up of political districts that originated before 1st July 2017. Districts that were created after that date belong to where their original (Parent) districts belong. The players who are eligible to play the tournament are those whose biological parents are of descent or ancestry from such a province or parents of a player must have lived in the province for a period not less than 10 years and only Ugandan players are allowed to play. Once a player represents a province will not be allowed to represent any other province.

The previous tournaments were won by Buganda with two titles 18 and 19 plus West Nile who are the defending champions that wooped Lango 3-2 in the doubled legged finals in January.

The fourth edition of the tournament will have an increment in the number of games from 36 played last year to 41 matches this year and that was according to Rogers Byamukama the FUFA Drum tourney chairman. He went on and said that this year’s final will be played one a one-legged basis at neutral grounds and the tournament is now moving on the backs of famous sponsors and that is MTN, Nile Special and Rock Boom.

According to Aisha Nalule, the FUFA Drum organizing secretary, games at the group stages will be played home and away with each team guaranteed to play six games. The best two teams from each group will progress to the quarter finials and these games will be played home and away then to the semi finals On Sunday 25th June 2023. FUFA Drum results:
