This is a wrong request and it should be rejected, it is not acceptable to license an institute to promote the work of Idi Amin,” Museveni wrote in response to a consultative letter from NCHE which was to seek guidance before approving the request made by former Obongi county Member of parliament Hassan Kaps Fungaroo who was requesting for a license to open up an institute in the memory of the fallen Idi Amin Dada.
President Museveni talked about various crimes committed during Amin’s government under his watch which included , the execution of prisoners in Mutukula Prison, and the murders of individuals like Ben Kiwanuka, Basil Bataringaya, and his wife, sending away investors which put Uganda’s growth at a standstill to date.
However, Hon Fungaroo, emphasizes that it is a matter of national importance aimed at rectifying inaccuracies in Uganda’s history, particularly those concerning the people of West Nile. Fungaroo believes that these historical inaccuracies have unjustly portrayed the West Nile people and are affecting their present and future generations.
He added that correcting the many fouls in history is the way to go and the Idi Amin Memorial Institute is a step toward addressing broader issues that impact all Ugandans
