KING OYO EMPANGO CELEBRATION FRONT ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

The king of Tooro Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV choose to celebrate his 28th coronation celebration under the theme “Preserving our environment, traditional cultural Heritage” The event is ongoing at the King’s palace in Fort Portal with prayers , cultural dance and drama from the different clans that make up the kingdom of Tooro.

In 2019 king Oyo launched the 19 million tree campaign aimed at combating drought that was affecting the kingdom following massive destruction of wetlands and trees. The target was to plant 10 million trees in five years but with the break out of COVID-19, this campaign was halted.

However, Steven Kiyingi , the Tooro kingdom premier affirmed to journalists yesterday, that trees would be planted in the entire kingdom in 9 districts of Ntoroko,Kabarole,Kamwenge, Bundibugyo, kasese, kitagwenda,kyenjojo,Bunyangabu, Kyegegwa, for a sustainable environment.
The Empango celebrations are an annual event that take place on the day the reigning king ascended to the throne.

King Oyo ascended to the throne on 12 September 1995 at the age of 3 following the death of his father king Patrick Olimi Kaboyo
This year’s coronation celebrations of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV took place today 12th September. He is currently the youngest reigning king in the world at 30 years of age
