The principal public relations officer of Makerere University Ritah Namisango has issued a press release disowning Yusuf Serunkuma’s affiliation with the University .
In a detailed document Rita released on 5th September , 2024 , it clarifies Yusuf enrolling for a five years interdisciplinary PhD program in social studies fully funded by the University in 2012. This required a masters degree component . His failure to meet the academic standards to pursue this program lead to its termination.
“Mr. Serunkuma does not hold a PhD from Makerere University , is not currently affiliated with the University and has no ongoing relationship with the University . ” stated the release .
The University took initiative to inform the public after Serunkuma’s presenting himself as a PhD holder from Makerere on various symposiums hosted by media platforms.
The Ugandan columnist had published “ The snake Farmers ” in 2015 and “Non essential Humans ” in 2022.
“ Why is Makerere management misinterpreting me as an academic failure after I beat them in court for almost the same reasons ?
How would they forget they filed for an appeal which is still ongoing ? These people just act without thinking .” noted Serunkuma .
He also asked the University to address him as ‘ Dr. Serunkuma ’ as well as provide him with a letter for his termination . Serunkuma demands for his second PhD from MUK .
The institution was not willing to sit back on the circulation of this disinformation hence issuing out a press release and referred to Ritah Namisango for more clarification .
