Are remarks of Susan Kataike spokesperson to the Ministry of Works and Transport on the essence of the amended road regulations following a series of regulations to curb road accidents.
Road accidents continue to persist on many roads across the country. According to the police Annual Crime Report 2022, the country registered 20,394 cases of road accidents in 2022 compared to 17,443 registered previously in 2021. Out of 100 crashes, 22 people died while 61 percent of all accidents were as a result of lawless driving, the police commented.

The government of Uganda had come up with remedies to close down the carnage, through the line Ministry Of Works and Transport campaigns like Fika Salaama , Tweddekko every life matters,Tonnywa novuga to grab the predator by its teeth. However the road collisions are continously claiming the lives of Ugandans.
The new regulations by parliament and ministry of works and transport seek to clearly stipulate punishment from the road fines, court punishments, and future developments that seek to curb the careless driving vice that leaves 1000s of Ugandans dead annually. These regulations will be put to action after being gazetted including the 2 million fine for over speeding.

The stand toll order to curb road carnages , comes at a time when the country had just lost one of it’s gallant sons Apollo Nyegahame in a car accident after colliding with a truck that had broken down by the road side. In a few days Uganda has registered three fatal road carnage accidents that have left many victims of death.
