TRADITIONAL WEAR ADOPTED AS SCHOOL UNIFORM IN BURKINA FASO

Effective next academic year in 2024 , all students’ uniforms in Burkina Faso are to be replaced with their traditional attire “Faso Dan Fani ”, this means the woven cloth of the home land .
Joseph Andre Ouedrago a minister in Burkina Faso said their plan is to have all schools by 2026-2027 to have Faso Dan Fani as their school uniform and this will apply for both public and private schools . For the start four cities that’s to say Bobu- Dioulasso, Sabou , Koudougou and Ouagadougou are first priority this year 2023.

Faso Dani Fani (FDF)was made Burkina Faso’s traditional wear in 1983 after Thomas Sankara became president created by the Marka people elevated to a national symbol as well . Since majority of women in Burkina Faso grow cotton yet it is the key raw material for manufacturing Faso Dan Fani , the late president Thomas got intrigued to making it the country’s traditional attire .

The urge to promote culture among young people triggered the leaders in Burkina to make changes in the students’ school uniforms from the current Kaaki uniforms they are wearing .
Zeroing it down to the pearl of Africa “Uganda” blessed with versatility of cultures each with it’s own traditional wear ,from Baganda who have Gomesi for women while Kanzus for men also back cloth , Banyankole with Onushanana among so many others .
