A total of 1,160 students graduated from Uganda Christian University on Friday 5th July 2024 . Of these, 538 were male and 622 were female. Among these graduates, 24 achieved first-class honors, with 14 being female and 11 male.
In his speech, Prof. Daniel Asuba Wubah the president of Millersville University of Pennsylvania who was the guest of honor emphasized the essence of self belief and hard work.
“ Graduates remember you have prepared to go and change the world . The world needs your expertise , creativity and commitment to serving others”. Prof. Wubah said.
Sarah Nsereko emerged as the overall best student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.72. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
Timothy Ddumba, a former UCU Guild President, emerged as the overall best male student, with a Cumulative Grade point average(CGPA) of 4.64, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. Him being a leader set the trend for his successors as an example after he balanced both education and leadership.
Ddumba’s aspiration to impact change and hold who ever is accountable for their responsibilities pushed him to go for leadership, as he managed to execute these during his term in the guild office . King’s college Buddo where he attended high school was Ddumba’s genesis in leadership after becoming a head boy .
The University Chancellor His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu extended his congratulations to the 2024 graduates and encouraged them to keep learning because “learning is the only thing the mind will never get exhausted of”.
“ The ceremony marks a significant milestone in the life of UCU graduates who have dedicated years of hard work and sacrifice to reach this tremendous occasion.” Dr. Kazimba said .
He also appreciated the exceptional work done by UCU staff. He thanked the Vice Chancellor for his commitment which has contributed to the University’s development. The students are the mirror to UCU’s philosophy with not only the skills and knowledge they acquire from the University but also the values .
Among other notable graduates was Dr. Kizza Grace , Dr. Michael Mwebaza and Dr. Justice Yapsoyekwa who graduated with a philosophy in Education Administration and Management.
Prof. Aaron Mushengenyi the University Vice Chancellor appreciated the President of the Republic of Uganda for the Golden Jubilee Medal he received in recognition of his contributions to the education sector.
He further called upon all graduates to face the world with the courage and boldness.
“Pursue your dream relentlessly, and as you do so, demonstrate excellence in word and in deed as a servant leader that UCU has prepared you to be,” said Prof. Mushengyezi.
He also encouraged them to make the most of the knowledge and skills acquired while at University.
