An art doyen Born on 16 August 1970, Omulongo Kato Lubwama. Born and Raised in Kampala at Martin road, he attended Nabagereka primary school, old Kampala SS for his O level studies and later on did mature entry exams where he excelled and enrolled for a diploma in Music Dance and Drama(MDD).
In the mid -90s, the artistry of Kato lubwama got a kick off at the Black Pearls. A drama group in 1986 that was owned by the Lt. Omugave Ndungwa, where he did several acting roles at the Riverside theater. His breakthrough came in a theatrical play “Amaka mu buwanganguse”, where he played a major character as Dr. Samson Kisekkka that he extremely executed. From this point he never turned back in art.
Mulongo kato went a head to be part of 23 theater and television plays, he served in several roles in the art industry including directing, scripting, producing, training, among others. Kato lubwama went a head to venture into writing music and becoming an artist releasing songs like Dimitriya,tulye,Abantu Bazibu, Banka yebyama among others.
Kato lubwama founded the Diamond Ensemble and Royal Theater after his time at black pearls, he helped nurture so many talents in the creative industry. His works were nationally recognized when he was awarded the medal of service to development of the creative arts by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Kato, was a jack of all trades a business man, politician, commentator, actor, musician, Radio host and writer. In 1998 Kato lubwama joined CBS radio doing the Kaliso Kaliso show with Abby Mukiibi where he improved and raised the bar of fm presenting and show packaging. Mulongo worked at the Mengo based station until 2015.
Mulongo kato Lubwama, a member of the Democratic Party decided to join active politics, where he contested for the seat of Rubaga south MP in the 2016 general elections on the DP ticket which he won and joined the tenth parliament as a legislators, In his quest for votes Mulongo kato had his core nucleus known as team solidar who did remarkable job in ensuring victory for him in the 2016 general elections.
As a legislator Hon.kato lubwama continued to pitch a case for Improvement and consistent consideration for the Arts industry. In terms of doing constituency work Hon.kato donated lots of funds to improve small businesses for people in Rubaga south, he also founded Be24 Television ,a source of employment. He served as a member of the tenth parliament and was pulled out of parliament after losing to Alyosious Mukasa of National Unity Platform in the 2021 general elections.
The gallant son of Uganda’s art, has been battling with illness for some time that has had him operated and hospitalized on more than one occasion because of heart related complications. In early hours of Wednesday morning, Mulongo kato Lubwama succumbed to a heart attack at Stan Medical center in Bunamwaya, wakiso distirct .
